It’s a proven FACT that dust and computer components don’t mix. The cooling fan and the electromagnetic field in the computers are always attracting airborne contaminates into the computer's delicate circuitry. The accumulation of dust creates a blanket on the computer's integrated circuitry and hardware components, which may cause the drives to malfunction and the integrated circuit's chips to overheat.

Computer crashes cost American business at least $4 billion last year, according to a first-of-its-kind survey. The survey found that the US, workers were idled 37.3 million hours last year. This translates into more than $400 million in lost productivity (average hourly wage $10.53). Average business has nine crashes per year, with each lasting around four hours. So how can your company minimize your computer downtime? Preventative maintenance! It's a sudden loss of your whole system costing you precious and expensive down time, thanks to an overheated CPU or other component. Either way, a small investment of time and money can save hours of frustration and unnecessary expense. Most computers only last about 3 years. But, like with cars, routine maintenance and proper care will allow the computer to last much longer. An age old saying still applies to modern problems; an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Most companies probably haven’t even thought about having their computers cleaned. Why?  Because it’s just one of those everyday things, you just use it for work.   In the days of large mainframe computers, the process of preventive maintenance was a regularly scheduled task. This process has not been widely adopted for current generations of computer and office equipment.

Here’s what the top health experts revealed!

The oily grime that collects on keys and headsets becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, increasing the risk of colds, and other infections spreading through an office. They get this contaminated because they're rarely cleaned or disinfected

The telephone is the worst offender with the highest bacteria counts, closely followed by the desktop itself and the computer keyboard. Most workstations are hardly ever cleaned, and they “sustain millions of bacteria that could potentially cause illness".

Another study showed that in all of the surfaces tested; it was found there was at least one form of bacteria and virus on each surface. Some of these pathogens included E. coli, Staph Aureus, Bacillus Cerus and even fecal matter. With the onset of flu season, plans for prevention should top your agenda.

A media research company mailed a questionnaire to hundreds of service technicians in the manufacturing and service industries. The survey of 188 technicians revealed that 91% of the computers and peripherals that failed could have been prevented by regular preventive maintenance. The majority of computer service technicians interviewed felt that regular cleaning could have prevented 58% of the service calls.  Businesses spend $million's per year on computer equipment repair; approximately 80% of this could be prevented by regular maintenance.
